Spot grazing animals in the surroundings of Duinrell

Do you dare to stand face to face with a Scottish Highlander? Or would you rather spot seals on the beach? Did you know that National Park Hollandse Duinen is in the top 10 most bird-rich nature reserves? Hollandse Duinen National Park is the perfect place to spot wildlife!

Looking for roe deer

Did you know that you can spot roe deer in the surroundings of Duinrell Estate? The roe deer route (2.6 km) starts at car park Kievietsduin in Meijendel. The scenic route goes through dark forest and open dunes. Many roe deer live here. You don't always see them, but they do see you.

Birdwatching

Meijendel is one of the ten most bird-rich areas in the Netherlands. There are about 250 different species to be found! A special bird watching screen has been placed in Meijendel (de Kijfhoek) for bird watchers with a view over a dune lake and surrounding woodland. At the screen you have a chance (you must be lucky!) to spot the kingfisher, water rail, crowning duck and all kinds of other species of ducks. This bird watching screen is also located on the blue walking route through Meijendel. Also fun: take a walk through the coniferous forests of Ganzenhoek with a view over the bird lake.

The Scottish Highland cow

Do you want to stand face to face with Scottish Highland cows? These giants live in Dutch dunes and are doing well here in the dune area with pools and reed beds. In February and March it is extra fun because of the calves of the Scottish Highlander cows.

Seals in Noordvoort

On the northernmost corner of National Park Hollandse Duinen you will find the Noordvoort beach reserve. Between Noordwijk and Zandvoort seals and birds have a 3 kilometre stretch of beach at their disposal where they are not disturbed. Would you like to catch a glimpse of the seals? Then walk along the outer row of dunes, this is the only place in the Netherlands where you are allowed to walk along a row of dunes! From the path and the three viewpoints you can, if you're lucky, spot seals! But the walk is more than worth it anyway.

Wild horses

Attention horse lovers! On the edge of the dunes of Meijendel and right next to our estate you will spot beautiful Konik horses. You will come across these wild grazers during a walk through the beautiful and open dune area De Hertenkamp. The great diversity of flora and fauna makes this a surprisingly beautiful and unique natural paradise.
