Tips for a fun day out to Delft

Do you feel like going out for a day? Delft is an incredibly charming city. There is something for all to enjoy. From visiting the museums to sitting on the terrace at the Beestenmarkt. Check out the tips for Delft below!

HOW DO YOU GO FROM DUINRELL TO DELFT?

From Duinrell it is about 30 minutes by car to Delft. Within Delft there are a couple of parking garages. All parking garages are at walking distance from the city centre. An overview of the parking garages in Delft can be found here.

Would you rather not take the car to Delft or did you not bring a car to Duinrell? Then public transport is an excellent alternative, but it will take you longer. The average travel time by public transport is about 1 hour: from Duinrell you take the bus to Den Haag central station and from there you take the train to Delft. Via 9292 you can easily plan your trip.

Transportation in Delft

Delft has a compact centre. It is not really necessary to take public transport in the city. Not sure how to get around? Then visit the VVV for more information about the city.

The New Church ( De Nieuwe Kerk)

It rises above everything and is an important landmark in the city: the five churches of Delft! The two most important churches in the city are the "Oude Kerk" and the "Nieuwe Kerk". The "Nieuwe Kerk" in Delft is mainly known for its royal crypt: almost all members of the House of Orange are buried here. The most famous grave is of course that of our Father of the Netherlands: Willem van Oranje. Nice to know: if the weather is good you can climb the tower. At the very top you have a wonderful view of the city!

How and what: with the same ticket you have access to both the "Oude Kerk" and the "Nieuwe Kerk". You can buy these online in advance. If you also want to climb the tower of the Nieuwe Kerk, you will need an extra ticket. You can buy a supplementary ticket at the ticket desk of the Nieuwe Kerk.
Address: Markt 80, 2611 GW Delft.

De Old church ( De oude kerk)

The nickname of the Old Church is 'Leaning Jan', and if you see the Old Church you'll know why it got this nickname. The Oude Kerk is actually quite crooked! At the time, the people of Delft were not aware of the foundation. They only found this out during construction, after which the church was built 'straight' on the already sloping site. Hence the kink that you can still see in the church today. The Oude Kerk has a tomb where Dutch figures such as Johannes Vermeer and scientist Antonie van Leeuwenhoek are buried.

How and what: with the same ticket you have access to both the Old and New Church. You can buy these online in advance. If you also want to climb the tower of the Nieuwe Kerk, you will need an extra ticket. You can buy a supplementary ticket at the ticket desk of the Nieuwe Kerk.
Address: Heilige Geestkerkhof 25, 2611 HP Delft.
